GP surgeries in Kirklees CCG rated ‘good’ in latest survey for another year

GP surgeries in Kirklees have received positive feedback in this year’s national GP Patient Survey.

The annual survey is an England-wide poll, providing data on patient experience for every GP practice in the country. It’s carried out by market research company Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England.

Between January and March this year, patients of GP practices in Kirklees were asked to rate the service they received in areas including making appointments, their views on the care they received, practice opening hours and how their health conditions were managed.

According to the survey, over 84% of people in Kirklees rated the overall experience of their GP practice as ‘good’.

Kirklees practices ranked at or above the national average in relation to satisfaction with support with managing long-term conditions, disabilities or illnesses, appointment times available to them; being offered a choice of appointment when the surgery was closed. On average, the proportion of people ordering medication and booking appointments online over the past 12 months was higher in Kirklees than across England.

Overall, practices scored above the national average on most key indicators in the survey; including overall experience, getting through to the practice by phone, helpfulness of reception staff, and satisfaction with appointment offered.

Despite the added pressures of the pandemic over the past 12 months, 88% of patients also reported they felt like their mental health needs were recognised and understood. More people than the national average also reported being able to access in-person visits with a GP.

Dr Khalid Naeem, local GP and Clinical Chair of NHS Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group said: “I’m pleased to see that patients’ experience of their GP practice has continued to improve despite the pandemic.
